Since those big three things are most of the budget, and no one is willing to realistically cut things, we have to raise revenue. Its math

True of any national-level politician.

This isn't giving Obama or anyone else a pass, but if you think dishonesty is particular to Obama or one specific political party, you have been duped.

The answer to Obama and the Democrats is NOT the Republican Party or any of its movers-and-shakers.

It's a pity, the two-paty system, since they both suck so bad.

I wish there was an alternative party that could realistically win...

Yep. Even the most strident republican supporters on this forum are unwilling to cut defense, when its bloated.

Raising taxes isn't easy either. Its easy to say on the rich, but it isn't even close to as much added revenue we will need.

Its a fine line though, spending cuts can hurt the economy as much as taxes can, if not done properly

It's two distinct philosophies ..

Krugman Vs. Ryan on Whether There Is a Fiscal Crisis | The Independent Agenda

I wonder which one is a more reasoned approach?

As Obama asked Romney when this was his idea " which specific tax deductions and loop holes are you talking about." Is it EITC? the mortgage tax deduction? child credit? we need the specifics? Wonder if Obama will man up and name them or is this just rhetoric?

That's from your own link.

Closing loopholes and limiting deductions was what the Republicans said but when Obama says it, you are up in arms.

Another false outrage thread.
The same people with the faux outrage must have hated George H.W. Bush too ?

Obama wanting taxes to go up is not anything that people didn't know about, he talked about this before.

Krugman, who I don't like, says we shouldn't worry about long term debt. Ryan is a hypocrite who barely touched defense and wants to lower taxes while ending Medicare.

Both are wrong. You can worry about the long term debt without ending Medicare and/or social security, while also worrying about the current economic situation.
