A Ku Klux Klan leader named Edward, who goes by the title “KKK Exalted Cyclops,” is promising the “largest” rally in Memphis history after the city decided to remove Confederate names from three parks.

In an 9-0 vote on Tuesday night, the Memphis City Council approved temporary names for three Confederate-themed parks. Forest Park will become “Health Sciences Park,” Confederate Park will be called “Memphis Park” and Jefferson Davis Park will get the name “Mississippi River Park.”

Raw Story is a progressive news site
Quote:
that focuses on stories often ignored in the mainstream media. While giving coverage to the big stories of the day, we also bring our readers' attention to policy, politics, legal and human rights stories that get ignored in an infotainment culture driven solely by pageviews
Raw Story is just like all the other left wing faux news outlets like Politico, Daily Kos, etc etc etc.

What's the demographics of Memphis?....And what is the political make-up?

If both have a majority with a mind to do something, they will do it.

Why were the names of the parks changed in the first place?

Sounds like Memphis wants to revise history.

The Confederacy existed - sorry that upsets some people - but it is a fact.

It also was justly defeated by the abolitionist union forces - led by the Republican Party.

Why some people want to whitewash (pun intended) southern history is beyond me.

It is possible to be a Union supporter and honor the bravery of the Confederates.

One could ask President Grant - and history speaks for him where he is now unable.

Liberal revisionists are really an odd crowd.

I agree 100% of what this guy said. If we close our eyes to history, we can forget it, and even worse.... repeat it.

The Memphis City Council acted quickly to change the park names because two state lawmakers have proposed the “Tennessee Heritage Protection Act of 2013,” which would prevent local governments from changing the name of any “statue, monument, memorial, nameplate, plaque, historic flag display, school, street, bridge, building, park preserve, or reserve which has been erected for, or named or dedicated in honor of, any historical military figure, historical military event, military organization, or military unit.”
Well that one sure backfired on them. By-by KKK. No one wants you anymore.
