I was doing a bit of research just then and I found plenty of links stating things such as "Now that the Bush Tax Cuts have expired" and "The Bush tax cuts have expired, no law to replace them", and I honestly didn't know they even expired if they did. So can someone tell me if they truly did or not? From my understanding the payroll tax went back to original levels and those making $200k or more tax cuts expired, not all tax expired.
Personally I've been for them expiring therefore this would sound like good news in my eyes, the country needs more revenues on the table because now the government is growing allergic to cuts. You know the funny thing about the Bush tax-cuts and Democrats? Most, in fact all of the people whom align with the Democratic party that I know don't want the cuts to expire, I'm like the only one that I know that wants them to. But now that I identify myself as an independent, I don't know any Democrats that want taxes to increase again.
Thanks for the link to an excellent summary of taxes. I note and appreciate the use of the word "permanently" in the description of specific taxes. This contrasts with the *temporary* nature of the Bush tax cuts ... the cuts that kept getting extended, but were always accurately labelled as being "temporary."
One part of this that may have been overlooked by people is that there is finally a permanent fix to the alternative minimum tax ... "Permanently indexes the alternative minimum tax for inflation, preventing millions of taxpayers from being affected."
