Assimilation? Give me a break. This is government intervention my friend, something I KNOW you loathe. Especially making a british restaurant rename their menu items from fish & chips to poisson frit et frites.
That's pushing it. I'm all for keeping the french culture there but this is too much.

A lot of "small government conservatives" on here, like the OP, would love it if the US implemented Quebec style language policies and enforcement . Quebec even tried passing laws, don't know if it was successful or not, to deliberately force all students in public schools to speak in French only during school hours.

I do think immigrants should assimilate to the country they are taking up residence.

There is no law on this in Quebec, although some schools may have something of this nature as part of their internal "rules".
Note that in probably 95% of the schools in Quebec this isn't really an issue anyway.
