Background check requirements make the gun control law appear to be a scam (Congress, politicians)

I have a license to carry a concealed hand gun - With that type of gun, I clearly see the need for a background check. And before you are given that license, you are put though educational hours and a thorough background check.

I see the need because it is concealable.

A rifle, I cannot see the need for licensing - perhaps a good safe handing course.

You can quickly see someone carrying a rifle. And though there are incidences that have occurred with them, they are low in number in relation to the number of out there.

This does not make any incident any less tragic.

But the idea of going all out, and making everyone do a background check in private sales, or small (weekend) business types of sales, is going to lead to the inevitable. That is, the anti gun groups encouraging the filing of law suits against each and every individual that sells a gun that may end up in some unfortunate incident.

In other words, to scare people out of selling guns.

The anti gun crowd will nit-pick ownership. They will look for any minor infraction in paperwork, go after people that sell guns to relatives, long known friends, and any situation that will punish or frighten gun owners, collectors or hunters.

I don't think the people in congress are thinking of this...They are too occupied with being what they are - career politicians - interested in nothing but getting votes.

The background checks should be the responsibility of the local government - not the individuals or small business people. There could be id cards confirming a safety course taken. But there should be no need for recording the information or transaction - no more than id being shown on entering a bar and buying a drink.

A person has their rights to privacy. Otherwise why not start publishing the names of people with STDs, or people with the ability to hack computers...or anyone else that has some ability to cause harm to others.

A good deterrent to these mass killings could be attentiveness by others - And saying something to someone that could be in a position to determine if there is a potential problem. That seems obvious now with what we've seen over the past decade or so.
