From 14.3% to 13.8%. Considering that not many jobs were created and even the U6 unemployment rate went down the only thing that could mean is that a LOT of boomers aged out of the workforce in March. If most of the people leaving the workforce were younger then 65 then the U6 rate would have remained steady or even increased.
I do agree with the OP though that the 7.6% rate told to us by the government is utter bs. There are a higher percentage of long term unemployed and marginalized workers in America than anytime since the great depression, but to hide the real picture the government hides these people from the unemployment stats.
A head of household who had a good full time job prior to the recession who is now working at Starbucks is pretty marginalized to me. These people are excluded from the official rate too.
When people go on SSDI, they aren't even counted in the U6 figure, and many months we have had more people going on disability then have gotten jobs. Our economy is so bad now that even the U6 is unable to tell us how bad things are.
The U3 looks better when people give up looking for work, and the U6 and U3 look better when people go on Social Security Disability Insurance. And in more then a few months, more new people signed up for SSDI then got new jobs.

LoL, yeah it is amazing how those who are too disabled to work aren't counted in unemployment.
Are you serious....or are you just being a really bad Poe?
Woot!! Trillions more in debt and the rate has fallen .4%.
the real unemployment you guys keep mentioning was something like 16%(closer to 17) when President obama took office, so if its 13.8 now, then that is more than .4.
You also keep mentioning trillions more in debt as if President Obama is responsible for loss in revenue predating his inauguration, or spending on 2 wars.

Nope, just the money he has wasted which is more than enough to blame him on.

Those people are not being hidden, Government has counted unemployment the same way since the 1980s. If they are hiding it, then they have been hiding it for 30 years.

Every time the unemployment rate drops, the right-wing shills trot out the "Obama math" excuse. The same method for calculating unemployment has been in effect for nearly 20 years, but only now do they express incredulity over the numbers.
The nation is recovering, no thanks to the Republican Party.

Well, it is said that reality has a well known liberal bias...as well as math.

You seem to question the U3 number, but not the U6 number. Its produced by the same government agency. If they were trying to hide it I think they would just not do the U6 calculation.
I've given up with the 0bama morons. No matter what their own eyes and ears tell them, they still think 0bama walks on water. Fifty year high in poverty, record high on Food Stamps, and it only gets worse from there. As Al Gore once said about the US economy and jobs, "everything that should be up is down, and everything that should be down is up."
Yes, coming out of one of the worst economic crisis this country has ever seen and the economy is still weak. Not sure what is so surprising about that.
