The biggest string of booze holidays aside from Christmas/New Year's time, are just around the corner - Memorial Day, the 4th, Labor Day, and those that can be created yourself like family reunions, Aunt Bessie's 90th birthday, graduation parties, hey, be creative!

My dad who died in November crusaded in AA for 35 years to educate people that we as a nation are drinking (and drugging) ourselves into a stupor. I dread these booze holidays for all the domestic violence, wrecks and deaths that needlessly occur.

Wake the hell up America - think about the people you're making rich with buying into the "you can't have fun without booze" Madison Avenue marketing lies.

Your heart is in the right place, but you know you won't make anyone change by scolding and lecturing. It has to come from within.

That said, your dad did a good thing for the world. A good legacy to leave.

Yeah, yeah. Many partiers will fight, drink and drive, won't keep their genitals in their pants and cheat on their significant others, but most of us, will have a damn good time and live to laugh about it.

So, cheers, to the "booze holidays".

I like booze.

I like holidays.

I like to mix the two.

My booze and I have never harmed anyone.

Skoal!

Six beers? Six seems like quite a bit.

Maybe you could talk to Mayor Bloomberg about that.

I'm fifty one years old. I've been around partying and drinking since I was about fourteen - and participated from time to time as well. That being said, I have witnessed an increasing dependency on large amounts of alcohol and binge drinking "in order to have a good time" over the years. I'm no prude but I'm dismayed that apparently drinking LOTS of alcohol has become simply an expected part of any party, get together, etc.

I have to wonder why people can't seem to have a great time without it. And this comes from someone who loves an ice cold beer with some Texas BBQ, or a couple of glasses of wine with the girlfriends. I don't however, have to catch a buzz or get drunk in order to cut loose and have a great time with family and friends.

Don't forget Cinco de Mayo today. It's more celebrated in America than Mexico. (It's not Mexican Independence Day)

At least it's not the early 1900s. Back then, the average adult American drank 5 times as much alcohol as we do now (kinda puts a different perspective of Prohibition).
