Your founding fathers never would have imagined that Americas primary business would be war...and that the citizens would be impoverished and taxed to death so a few arms dealers and those who invest in war supplies can live the high life.
This is the current argument of choice by the left. So there by we can make it illegal for the common citizen to own them. The founders never could have imagined or conceived of the internet, industrialized printing presses, TV or Radio. So there by the logic of the left only the police and Military need these media of mass publication with their high capacity of reach. When the first amendment was written, it would take days to print a few hand bills, now it can be shown in real time. The founders never intended for this to be the case.
We must have common sense speech regulation to stop all the talk and ideas from coming out so fast. How can a government or military respond to ideas from a high capacity media? They are simply out gunned.
Sure they could. Can't you picture what you think weapons may be like in a hundred or two hundred years from now? Hollywood can and so can everybody else.

When drafting 2ed amendment, the founding fathers thought about armed militias to defend the citizens of the new nation against an occupier like the British or an oppressive government. They also considered all those living at the frontier, isolated and sometimes defensless. For many the gun was for daily survival and putting food on the table. Nobody today needs guns in the crowded urban and suburban centers. People (most of us) buy food at supermarkets.
In the case of any foreign invasion you can forget about pistols and rifles. Same if case of a government takeover. Forget your pistols and be prepared with anti tank missiles, helicopters and artillery.
Basically the environment and circumstances changed so much that the 2ed amendment is no longer effective and misses the point.
tell that to the people who tonight will have been raped, stabbed, robbed, car jacked, or suffer from a home invasion...you sir fail to understand that human nature can not and will never change. I hope you do not encounter any danger in life, because I don't you will come out of it.....

Here is an example. If you read about the Constitution Convention, you will also read about the majority of some States being in favor of not allowing Jews or Catholics to ever hold public office (true Democracy at work). Jefferson and the founders shot down this mob-rule outlook, by helping to establish what we have...a Federal-Republic with a Constitution that guarantees certain rights and equal treatment.
I think that the founding fathers would be equally sick, at many of the Christians claiming this is a "Christian nation" (it is not), as they would with the mob-rule tyranny the left of this country promotes, where government has to be involved in everything!
Was the government instituted to SERVE the people or to RULE the people?
I believe we call them PUBLIC SERVANTS to emphasize the former and not the latter.
So where do servants get the audacity to prohibit the masters from possessing firearms?
What delegation of power can they claim?

A republican form of government has nothing to do with a democratic form, or a constitutionally limited indirect democracy. The government was instituted to secure the people's rights - those people are the ones promised a republican form in Art. 4, Sec. 4, USCON.
The united States of America is a perpetual union of sovereign people, served - not ruled - by government, instituted to secure their rights and only govern those who consent to be governed. Anything more is suspect. Anything less is unacceptable.
{Citizens, by definition, are subjects. Which may explain why no state government or its subject citizens have a "right" to secede from the UNION created to secure the rights of the sovereign people (non-citizens).}
