What is the point of US Congressman learning Spanish ? does the USA teach immigrants in their home language ?
If the USA is a so called English speaking Nation should it not make sure that all immigrants have a reasonable grasp of English before they are allowed in any school ?

Congressman learning Spanish, why ?

Maybe he wants to be more knowledgeable. not everyone hates knowledge, some people actually want to be more educated.

Which US Congressman? Many people enjoy learning languages. Many people enjoy talking to people who speak different languages. Is this really a question?

Amen. When did knowledge become threatening?

Perhaps they want to communicate with their constituents.

Maybe they are going to take a trip to a Spanish speaking country and want to be able to communicate.

I don't understand the hostility some people seem to have for other languages besides English.

What is wrong with being able to communicate with or understand more people?

This is part of the agenda. Sorry that you voted for unsuccessful Romney. We who voted for Obama all knew that it was in the 2012 platform that all Americans should learn Spanish so that it can become the official language. That way we can do business with more countries

Those of you who can't or refuse to learn... good luck on welfare lol.

I didn't know people in Congress weren't allowed to learn other languages. Does this rule apply to just people in Congress or all Americans?

Learning Spanish? Oh, the horror! I speak five languages....three fluently, and two, enough to get by.
Learning something isn't going to kill you.....except maybe in America, judging by the OP?

Why not ? Then he doesn't have to turn the packages at the supermarket so he can read the labels.
