Regional syndication can also be more attractive to area advertisers who share a common regional trading area versus assembling a radio network of stations that hopscotch across the USA.
That's right, but you don't understand how Rush gained dominance in the market. Cumulus, the group he's leaving, is the second largest syndicate in the country. The part you don't get is that although large stations pay for the show and have the advertising power to cover costs, all of those little rural radio stations--Rush's main market because most of his listeners are primarily rural and old--are getting the show for free. The syndicate was making their money by taking nearly 100% of the national advertising dollars for presold shots during the show. It was a sweet deal for the smaller stations because they got three hours of free, high listener programming. Rush has lost almost all of his national advertisers, so the syndicates aren't making any money on him anymore. If he moves to a smaller syndicate with smaller stations, and if those small stations are required to purchase the show (national shows are very pricey) and cover costs through local advertising, it doesn't work financially for the smaller stations.
He'll make almost 1/2 a billion dollars over the next few years, dont think Rush cares..
oh btw op, 96 advertisers isn 96%, want to backup either, or the losses you quoted? Lower revenues dont = losses.. and if you sight a source that doenst know the difference, then you both lose credibility
HE cares his ego is bigger than his appetite for young hispanic men.
True. Radio one actually has to listen to a conversation to grasp what is occurring. Liberals only need the big headline to run off screaming and howling at the moon about whatever it is they are feigning their outrage about for the day.
Well...that's one interpretation.
The other is that they're different demographics. Radio listeners are a completely different group than internet (much younger, more urban, and better educated)
Air American never was going to make it. Since Republicans tend to not believe in evolution, they are more likely to have AM/FM radios in their cars. This is why Rush is so popular.
Liberals are too busy listening to their gadgets and such.

Thats not at all how radio sydications work.
Radio shows pay Cumulus for the right to broadcast his show, thats how they pay Rush Limbaugh. The local shows get x number of minutes to sell to pay for the advertising locally, to pay for the cost to braodcast the show and Cumulus obtains so many minutes to sell to national broadcasters.
Yes Cumulus makes money from national advertisers but they also make money from the syndications, whereas the smaller regional radios do not get advertising revenue from teh national chains.
They were always required to sell advertising to make it work financially.

So why didnt air america move to satellite or the intenet if thats a valid excuse?
