PRESIDENT OBAMA: Unfortunately, you've grown up hearing voices that incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity that's at the root of all our problems. Some of these same voices also do their best to gum up the works. They'll warn that tyranny always lurking just around the corner. You should reject these voices.

People who do believe this deserve what they get.

Who would enact this tyranny? Who would be the ones physically attacking Americans?

What business does Obama have to go to a graduation and tell them that big government is good and to reject the voice who warn of tyranny. Where do you suppose Obama's purpose is?

What damn business did Obama have to do this. It was their day and instead of encouraging them and this self centered self serving president Obama used it for his own agenda.

That, my friends, is the face of pure evil. That would be Barack Hussein Obama, the worst president in this great country's history. Graduations are never about pushing political agendas; rather, they are about encouraging people to be successful. Socialism has never been --- and never will be --- about successful people.

Ahh, tyranny at its finest. 2016 can't get here soon enough unless President Tyranny gets impeached first.

Bad government has grown out of too much government. Any one person, any one body of government will always abuse power. They are not to be trusted. They work for us, we do not work for them. What the hell is Obama doing? Promoting big government.

Obama's said
"Still, you’ll hear voices that incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity that’s the root of all our problems, even as they do their best to gum up the works; or that tyranny always lurks just around the corner. You should reject these voices. Because what they suggest is that our brave, creative, unique experiment in self-rule is just a sham with which we can’t be trusted."

The same powers that have been doing it all along.
When Obama ordered the military to kill an american citizen by drone absent due process, no one in the chain of command dared question him because they were just following orders
When various governmental agencies rousted people out of their homes at gunpoint in Boston, they were just following orders
When the guardsmen mowed down the protesters at Kent State, they were just following orders

Soldiers, cops, agents, etc., do what their told, because in their lne of work critical thinking gets them disciplined.

President Obama was invited to speak, and he expressed his vision of what it means to live cooperatively in society, and participate in a republic.

I think his purpose was to urge the graduates to think clearly about what it means to live in a civil society: to realize there is a balance between freedom and restraint, and rights vs responsibilities, to themselves, and to each other. That in a democracy, WE are the government. And that government is necessary, to ensure the safety of the people, and protect their rights. Our government is designed to PREVENT tyranny.

The president encouraged students to look critically at those who would try to mis-represent the workings of a democracy as "tyranny", for their own nefarious purposes. And to ask the grads to think, "What would these people replace our system WITH? Who would benefit?"

I think the president was advancing an AMERICAN agenda

They go for the unearned rewards of blind obedience.

Greedy to a fault.

All of that would be great if we lived in a Democracy, but we don't. The American people are not the government. We hand over the responsibility for deciding our nation's future to representatives that, for the most part, we don't hold accountable when they make bad decisions.

No, the Constitution is designed to prevent tyranny. Unfortunately, for the past few decades we've all stood aside while the Constitution has been trampled upon by the very people whose power it was meant to limit. Both Democrats and Republicans have been promoting and passing legislation that is designed to take away the basic rights of the average American citizen, while we all stand back and watch it happen under the guise of security.

News flash: tyranny is already here. The fact that we've inadvertently volunteered to be tyrannized doesn't change this simple fact. The average American is perfectly content to let the government tell them what they can or cannot do, even when the proscribed actions would have zero negative effect on the rest of civilization.
