Too funny. Detroit was destroyed by liberals -- particularly your idol Bill Clinton who took such great pride in that NAFTA deal. Without jobs, Detroit couldn't make it. Remember when Bill Clinton told us that we had to compete with the third world -- now you have it.
And the other side of the NAFTA coin was Ciudad Juarez -- which is in worse shape than Detroit as far as violent crime. They got those cheap paying jobs Clinton gave them though. Hasn't helped them much.
That is true, NAFTA was a huge mistake crafted by by Republicans, including Bush Sr. Then it was a huge mistake for a Republican controlled Congress who passed NAFTA, and then it was a huge mistake of Bill Clinton to sign something that was basically crafted by Republicans that were focused on shipping jobs out of the country to help the wealthy in the country.
But yes, Bill Clinton should have never signed that bill and should have given it a big fat veto.

The NAFTA vote in the Senate was about as bi-partisan as votes come. 31 R's and 27 D's voted for it.
In the House 132 R's and 102 D's.
"It is not a perfect agreement," said House Speaker Thomas S. Foley (D-Wash.) in an address to his colleagues. "But this is, for the moment, an opportunity to expand our trade, to reach out beyond our borders . . . to seize the future."
I'm kind of at a loss when conservatives say Detroits collapse is due to liberal policies. Certainly Detroit has adopted silly anti-business policies but liberalism isn't why half the city's residents are functionally illiterate, liberalism is not why crime is high. Liberal cities of Austin and Portland seem to run just fine.
No the cause of Detroits decline is that its demographics changed drastically.

Many years ago and Detroit's politicians refused to accept that.

Really?
NO production facilities moved to right to work states and other countries?
No jobs moved to automated plants?
And IF as you say they moved to the suburbs, how were the thousands of small businesses dependent on those who "moved to the suburbs" supposed to rebound from that loss of business?
For every big company that moved to the suburbs there were many small companies dependent on them.
