Also, with all this Norwegian content with marriage that's being spoken about here, why does it, as well as Scandinavia in general have skyrocketing unwed birth rates?

I thought you said, Camlon, that more marriages meant less single parenting?

Quote:
In Iceland, for example, 66 percent of births were to unmarried women, as were 55 percent in Sweden, 54 percent in Norway and 46 percent in Denmark. The United States unwed rate of 40 percent fell in about the middle of this group of countries, about equal to that of the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
54% of Norwegian babies are born to unwed mothers...54%! Holy yikes!

Also, this...

Quote:
"In places like Sweden nearly all of the non-marital births occur to couples in long-term relationships that often last as long as if not longer than American marriages," said Cherlin.
...contradicts your assertion that marriage is essential for improving the family in general.

You will thank me later, while chosing to stay single forever. Hope this helps.
And young woman as well.... the only two people I currently know who are paying alimony are both women.

I honestly think that alimony should be a thing of the past, with the exception of very few rare cases, where one parent stays home in order to raise the kids and in turn impacts his own career development and ability to earn a living. At the very least, permanent alimony should be disallowed at this point. Wealth redistribution should not be taking place, regardless of gender.

I completely agree and I think that's why alimony was created in the first place.

Honestly, even if I were a stay at home mom I would probably at the very least continue my college studies (masters program, another bachelors degree etc.) because there is NO FREAKING WAY I would trust my life like that to another human being no matter how 'in love' we were.

Thank you. I suspected as much.

Plus, consider Norway's government and what Norwegians get for their much higher taxes. It's a stunning example of socialism done right: Great schools, day care, benefits, transportation, retirements. What was it Bill Maher said? Even their paranoid racist loners look like speed-skaters. Point is, their society is set up so that being born to unwed parents doesn't entail the risks to the children that it might here.

Good luck with something like that in the U.S., land of "Socialism sucks but don't cut my Medicare!"

Actually those children are born from couples who live together and share costs. They are not single parents, and if I remember correclty the number of single parents is dropping. I Many of these couples will later marry. What you need to look at is the number og single mothers.

But there is another thing. Marriage rated declined much earlier in scandinavia. They have started increasing again afterwards, but if they kept the laws of the 70s, then marriage would be completly gone.

You said specifically that it was marriage that was preferable when having children. I was answering that.

You sure like to spin ("but our single mothers are part of couples!" -- like this universally true of all 56% of single Norwegian parents and isn't true at all in other countries?) and to backpeddle.

Sources? Citations? You're pretty vague about this whole "the laws" thing. Like there's one set of them or something.

And once again, how is this true of Norway but apparently untrue of other countries?

It isn't true in America. Most children born out of weldlock is also born outside long term reelationships. In america if you have lived together for a long time, then you will get married. For instance you don't see a lot of black men and woman not married rasing children. You see a lot of black mothers raising them by themselves.

I will answer more later.
