What a crazy world we live in. Parents/mothers are putting their daughters on birth control at age 14, they have access to the day after pill, condoms are handed out to boys in school - and what is the message? It's OK to have sex when you are 14 as long as it's protected. If you don't use protection, we have a pill for you.
This is very sad on two counts. Kate has a very large support group and most important, very supportive parents and I hope that there is no penalty for her actions. I think she has received enough punishment and hope that she can move on with her life.
As for the other girl, her parents went on a vindictive path to stop something that, if their daughter is gay, they aren't going to "stop" what is natural to her. Any "satisfaction" the parents may take with their actions, will be lost in time when they lose their daughter. They have exposed their daughter's sexuality and she will feel any backlash as a result of what her parents did and any penalty that Kate may face, no matter how hard she tries to convince others that it was consensual and how sorry she is.
Yes, boys over 18 do suffer the wrath of parents who don't like that their minor daughter is sexually active, but I'm sure that most sets of parents will sit down together and privately discuss the situation to save their children any public "embarrassment", and their own "embarrassment". Their first action should have been to confront Kate's parents and try to resolve it privately.

Well the other girls parents or bigots. Their little angel never did anything. Bla bla bla. They even give the her a plea deal but that's not good enough. Her is your equality. The mother is of course angling for her poor daughter is being ostracized for being gay. Maybe mommy should teach her daughter to date folks her own age.

Kaitlyn Hunt was arrested Feb. 16 for having a physical relationship with a younger classmate, who was her girlfriend at the time, mom Kelley Hunt Smith wrote on Facebook.
Under Florida law, Hunt could see up to 15 years in prison and must register as a sex offender. A plea deal, however, remains on the table that would give Hunt two years' house arrest and one year of probation, her family said.
“Does my daughter deserve to lose her life for 15 years, or 3 years, or to have no life, because of one choice she made in high school, absolutely not!!” Hunt Smith wrote Friday, adding, “This is a mother’s nightmare.”

Well, if it was an 18 year old boy and a 15 year old girl, his life would be over. This case is no different. It's the statutory rape, under the law. She shouldn't be treated any different from a straight male. I don't relish laws that demolish some kids life, and stigmatize them as sex offenders in situations like this, but it is the law, and her the reaking of it is no less a crime for her being gay. Equality can be a b****. It would be the same for an 18 year old girl and a 15 year old boy. I'm not saying I agree with the law here, just that it IS the law.
In most States, a boy 17, that dates a 15 year old girl and has sex (or in many cases even kisses her) with her will spend 18-20 years in jail or on probation, combination of both, and be forced to register as a sex felon for rest of his life. Instead of crying foul, people need to realize it's the same thing between a boy and girl or 2 lizbo girls, age does matter when it is teenagers. Why? because the parents should still be teaching them right from wrong instead of crying foul when their "never does anything bad perfect angel " little brat gets caught doing some big things wrong like these 2 girls were. Both girls need their a$$#s whipped, which I am betting never happened to this 1 now facing the justified criminal charges.
Two teenagers having sex is a felony in Florida? What a ****ed up law. Here in Colorado our closeness in age exceptions makes it legal for a 15 year old to have sex with somebody up to 25.

That's just not true. The most common age of consent in the US is 16 (meaning a 65 year old man and a 16 year old girl having sex is perfectly legal).
The liberal utopias of California, Oregon, and Wisconsin all have ages of consent of 18.
