The tax-payers will miss out on the interest payments, but it is good news the company is doing well.

Tesla repays federal loan nearly 10 years early - May. 22, 2013

Tesla Motors announced Wednesday that it has repaid a $465 million loan from the government nearly a decade before it was scheduled to do so.

The electric-car maker received the loan from the Department of Energy in January 2010, and it made its first payment this past December. That began what was supposed to be a 10-year repayment program, but plans have changed.

I have my doubts.

The CEO of GM had the balls to do a TV ad stating that GM paid back every penny.....he forgot about the $50 BILLION they still owed!

This is what we get when we get fed so many lies from the government and those the government gave prefferential treatment to.

Even if this is 100% true it's not going to be taken as a good reason for what was done because of the doubt that it's legit and above board because of all of the past lies.

I think its funny that lefties are now applauding government making loans, while whining just a few years ago that government was making loans..

Yes, they are pricy, that's for sure, but they look great. Maybe they will start making more affordable models, now that they have built their name.

Judging by the comments here some people have trouble telling the difference between a loan and a gift.

A company that is worth a tinkersdamn wouldn't have to look to the government for a loan.

There are reasons why private lending institutions won't loan money to car companies that are a shaky foundation. The only reason GM was saved was to insure labor unions were sustained to vote for The One.
