Again, this is just another attempt by Obama supporters to raise taxes yet again. NoJiveMan wants us to support his babies, pay for their healthcare, pay for housing, food. No! You get enough.

Eisenhower Interstate Highway System -Frequently Asked Questions
From you link..............

"After Republicans blocked Obama's infrastructure plan, the president's Democratic allies immediately killed a competing GOP infrastructure plan that would have extended existing highway and transit spending programs and paid for the spending with a $40 billion cut in unspent funding for other domestic programs. The White House opposed the measure over its spending cuts and provisions that would block recent clean air rules and make it harder for the administration to issue new rules."

Darned old Republicans!

Quote:
Why is President Dwight D. Eisenhower called the "Father of the Interstate System"?
Although the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1944 authorized designation of a "National System of Interstate Highways," the legislation did not authorize an initiating program to build it. After taking office in January 1953, President Eisenhower made revitalizing the Nation's highways one of the goals of his first term. As an army Lieutenant Colonel in 1919, Eisenhower had accompanied a military convoy across the United States and saw the poor condition of our Nation's roads. Later, during his World War II stint as Commander of the Allied Forces, his admiration for Germany's well-engineered Autobahn highway network reinforced his belief that the United States needed first-class roads. As a result, Eisenhower formed internal committees to study the idea, enlisted the Nation's Governors to offer suggestions, and met with Members of Congress to promote the proposal. When legislation failed in 1955, observers predicted that in the presidential election year of 1956, the Democratic Congress would not approve such a significant plan sought by a Republican President. Nevertheless, President Eisenhower continued to urge approval and worked with Congress to reach compromises that made approval possible. The President signed the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956 on June 29, 1956.
Through the remainder of his years as President, he searched for ways to solve the problems that plagued the program in its early years and pushed for continued work on the Interstate System. His leadership in promoting the 1956 Act and moving the program forward on schedule has earned President Eisenhower the title "Father of the Interstate System."

Republican President Dwight D. Eisenhower

Imagine that, a republican who wanted to build America's infrastructure!

This is actually a great topic as it's minefield for the liberal way of thinking.

Do you support raising the fuel tax? If not then you support subsidizing roads.

So the next argument is that it unfairly tragets the poor but business's and corporations in this country spend a huge amount of money fuel taxes.

You could suggest that those business's are going to pass that fuel tax onto the consumer but do you really want to go down that road? LOL

Washington State was awarded $8.5B from the 2009 Stimulus. Let's see how they spent some of that:

$760k to develop interactive dance software
$1.9M for international ant research
$550k to replace windows at a Forest Service center that is closed
$700k to fund behavioral research of how monkeys respond to inequality
$427k to study better video game design for senior citizens
$447k for development and use of African American English amongst 70 students
$389k to study effects of malt liquor and marijuana (I could have written a great report for them for $100k )
$54M to relocate a bridge for the Napa Valley Wine Train
$3.4M to build wildlife bridges for animals
$850k to study how paying attention improves solving difficult tasks
$11M for a bridge for Microsoft
$1.15M to replace a guard rail around an empty lake
$2.5M in checks mailed to dead people

I guess the problem is simply that we need to tax more so more money can be spent?

Link? or something to back up this statement?

Consumers pay the lion's share of fuel taxes, since consumers outnumber businesses.

Subsidizing roads and bridges? How did Eisenhower get the interstate system funded? I gave a link earlier, try seeing how he did it. Instead of placing blame for something unfounded.

At this point in time fule taxes are being diverted to mass transit, you would support using those taxes for roads and bridges as they were intended? Any time this topic comes up and it's suggested that fule taxes be used solely for the purpose of building roads and bridges one of the common arguents from the left is that roads and bridges are subsidized.

For one thing the Interstate system is considered an extension of defense, it would be integral to moving troops and equipment if this country were ever invaded. That's unlikely but that is part of the reason it was built.

I have no problem with paying more taxes for infrastructure but if you're going to tax you need to tax where it's appropriate and the obvious choice is to tax whoever is using the road.
