Exactly...depending on the day, it's acceptable to switch from "We need to keep Gitmo open" to "A promise that President Obama hasn't kept." The cognitive dissonance goes unnoticed, except by those who pay attention and would like to see Congress take some actions to actually address our country's problems. These poor folks can't bring themselves to recognize that twice the majority of Americans rejected their platform...U2 wrote a great song that certainly applies to the GOP.

Dedicated to our GOP friends, with love:

So they never promised to close Gitmo. BO did. Hardly a problem for Republicans.

It is a promise BO didn't keep. If his supporters don't mind that's their business.

Damn it...it's all Obama's fault.

Where was Obama when Pelosi was running the House?

Here's the dirty little secret...Obama doesn't really want to close GITMO.

He just wants to blame Republicans for him breaking his campaign promises.

He knows his supporters are way too stupid to catch on.

We're just waiting for Congress to work with President Obama...if the GOP doesn't mind that their representatives took an oath to govern then chose to simply refuse to work with a duly elected POTUS
yet take their paychecks, great healthcare and vacations, that's their business. It does seem at odds with the belief that people should work for their keep, however.

Obama was gave the power to close Guantanamo but like in everything else he refuses to take the leadership and do it.

So yes, this does fall in Obama's lap 100%. As noted the House didn't promise to close it, Obama did and he has all the power needed to do just that but refuses to.

The National Defense Authorization Act that Congress passed last year specifically allows the president to transfer detainees out of Guantanamo if the defense secretary certifies that it’s in the interest of U.S. national security and that measures will be taken to substantially mitigate any risks they may pose.

So here are the steps Obama can take right now to start closing the Guantanamo prison:

Obama can close Guantanamo | The Great Debate

Obama may be the biggest coward of a president in at least any of our lifetimes.

The article borders on the absurd, there are no detainees cleared for release by the courts, almost none of them have not gone to trial, there is no evidence of wrong doing yet they remain incarcerated. Exactly how does the defense secretary make the case that transferring the prisoners out of Guantanamo is a national security issue?

They cannot expend funds for transfer of the prisoners out of Guantanamo, period. Call congress a group of cowards, rather than do the right thing they will gladly keep these prisoners in Guantanamo for the rest of their lives. Other countries view this as a Gulag, it works against our contention that we are an county of honor.

On top of everything this looks like an old Rambo movie where there are 300 soldiers guarding 5 prisoners, time to close the base and either try the prisoners, release them, or send them to prisons in the US.

Yes, nothing is Obama's fault. He has the O.K. from Congress to start transferring prisoners out and as the article notes, the only thing stopping his release of others is his policy that even Feinstein notes he needs to back off on.

This isn't Newsmax, but Reuters noting this. It's Feinstein noting that there are things he can do to get the prisoners out of there.

Seems Feinstein has bigger ones than Obama here.

One of the first things he did in 2009 was to attempt to close the base and he was defeated by congress, beyond the human rights issues they are spending $800K per detainee per year. There only reason for release is human rights violations, there is no reason to release relative to national security.

I can just imagine if one inmate comes back to haunt us, the GOP will have a field day, would have been nice to see some courage from both parties rather than political posturing.
