I'm more interested in why the media thinks this is news. But, if someone here did think it was newsworthy as an issue then I'm open to hear that too.
Alright, O.K then. I believe it's noteworthy as part of a bigger picture. I believe they were trying to link this with all the other grad stories that always pop up this time of year. To get it out of the way, I side with the school here.
Yes, freedom of clothing can be a freedom of speech issue but the courts have ruled that schools can control what students wear. I may have qualms about that but it is the current law.
Maybe there is another grad equally as proud to have just landed a job at Burger King and really, do we want him accepting his diploma in his work uniform?
It's also news because 24 hour channels have to find some way to fill all that space.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. It did make me wonder about JROTC but that's just a random occurrence.
