While I don't think humans are superior to other animals I think giving human rights to other animals is very problematic. I do support laws against animal cruelty as long as they aren't used as a way to increase police presence and the prison population, and I could agree with giving primates and cetaceans some kind of "Non-Human Person" status. But the idea of making all animals let alone all species legally equal would lead to nothing but moral relativism.
Equal rights? I'll have to ponder that for a bit since it's not exactly an question that can be answered in text-message like fashion.
In the meantime what would your life be like without bees...
Life on Earth certainly would cease to exist if it were filled with humans alone so I tend to favor the Yin-Yang theory of balance and that you don't particularly have any say in the matter.
So...
If a superior (intelligence, technology) race came down from space and treated us like we treat many animals, I wonder if our answers would be different.

was it a pet mouse? a common everyday house mouse? or was it a bush mouse? did the mouse have rabies or other transmittable diseases? was it a big mouse? was the mouse injured at the time of the kill? was it a nuisance mouse? did the mouse steal food from the perpetrator? did the mouse have a large family??

That sums it up pretty much. When the cockroaches and gators are still around after the "apocalypse" it will start once again.

artificial drone bees would take the place of real bees, and Monsanto will be at the helm..
