I really don't understand the outrage, if you're not doing anything illegal then who cares if you're being monitored. I believe a recent poll showed that most Americans did not mind either which shows they're willing to let it happen if it keeps them safe.
MAN, I AM SO SICK OF AMERICANS ACTING STUPID! Did the IRS issue not teach you anything? What is to stop a far left administration from reading chats and emails, then going after far right individuals and groups (and the same applies to a right adminstration and left groups-individuals). So gonig by your logic, you would be ok with a camera mounted on your car and on your hat for the government to review your actions? I mean after all, if you are not doing anything illegal, you have nothing to worry about right?
Do you not understand, the 4th amendment was put in place to protect the people from the government? It shows the difference of people who rely on government and want government to hold their hands, protect them and those who really want independence, personal freedom and liberty. No offense---you belong in China or N. Korea where the government would appreciate you not questioning them.

A government is never happy with the power it holds. It always wants more.
And the more you give the more it wants.
So true...and we have become tyrants...everything America does is supposed to be ok, but the moment some other country does it, OMG, it's horrible.....

They don't need to bother reading them because they save every email subject line, and the addresses they are sent to, who we call on our phone, who we text, which web sites we visit, then store it all in a searchable data base. This data base can categorize each of us, by looking at trend in the places we visit, people we talk to, and topic and stories we look at. With this info they can tell a lot about us. Then all they need to do is generate a list of all people who fit a certain profile, or create a list by association from the data they mined on us.
So if any of us apply for a federal job, apply for some tax status, they can pull up all the information about us that they want to. All without actually reading our emails, listening to our calls, or watching us thru surveillance. It's a complete invasion of privacy without a warrant, and without our knowledge or consent.

Well, you know... it would be helpful to fight crime if the government knew where everyone was, thru GPS location, and knew everything we said, wrote, texted or what we did on our computers, online banking, investments, smart phones and iPads. It would also be helpful politically to know all of this too, but trust government never to cross that line.
A government is never happy with the power it holds. It always wants more.
And the more you give the more it wants.
The founders of this nation knew this to be true. While not without their flaws, they definitely were no dummies.

What happens when the feds trip on a crime other than terrorism?
Will they walk away or will the database become a source for domestic crime?
What ethics will be in place?
Don't be surprised if the term 'terrorist' and terrorism' get a new and broader 'legal' definition to include major and minor crimes.
We are just a flip of the switch from a totalitarian state and the behavior of the Obama administration is a cause for concern and legal action.
