This whole thing sounds like a bad joke and it isn't doing the FBI any justice for them to be taking this seriously.
Quote:
Investigators said Crawford approached Jewish organizations last year looking for funding and people to help him with technology that could be used to surreptitiously deliver damaging and even lethal doses of radiation against those he considered enemies of Israel. He and Feight assembled the mobile device, which was to be controlled remotely, but it was inoperable and nobody was hurt, authorities said.

Two New York men were charged Wednesday with a plot to provide terrorists with an X-ray weapon that would sicken people with radiation.
The weapon, a portable X-ray gun, was found to be incomplete and not currently operable, and experts question whether it could work in the first place.
This has to be a joke and a waste of the FBI's time. An X-Ray gun my ass.
Right. Obviously nobody involved here was smart enough to nuke a TV dinner let along build a X-Ray gun that would caused delayed deaths in those they don't like.
I'm thinking that might include the FBI.
Meh, they can track down a couple imbecile's with a lazer pointer, some aluminum foil and a water pistol but they can't get the Boston bombers even after being warned.
There are some small but powerful little x-ray tube in things like table top x-ray diffractomers used materials science labs or for radiography of metal parts like jet turbine blands to find stress cracks. In an incident at BNL in the mid 1990s a reasearcher ignored safety procedures and stuck his hand in the beam of an x-ray diffractometer when trying to adjust a samples position in the beam. He burned a quarter inch hole right through the palm of his hand. It took months for the hand to heal after surgery. These aren't the low power x-rays used in the doctor's office or your dentist. The tube for a Phillips x-ray diffractometer is a few inches lond and about an inch in diameter. The only thing a little bulky is the high voltage power supply and the water chiller to cool it and keep it from burning up. Solve those problems an you may be on to something.
So you think militants are more concerned with their nation then religion?
I do not think so. Most people put religion ahead of country.
Nations may then either beome a religious state or secular. Or is this a chicken or egg dillemah? Nation or Religion first?
The are a broad number of reasons you have millitants. Could be religion (9-11), could be their brother was killed by whomever, could be racism (MLK), nationalism (See ww1) etc etc.
The ruling party, regardless of system will use whatever they can to motivate the masses to fight.
For example, growing nationalism is what gave a lot of momentum to the reformation in Europe. Prior to that they were predominantly catholic, it was nationalism that trumped religion in that case.
Japans soldiers were fanatical in WW2....loyalty to the emperor and country....honor....religion not so much.
Good discussion. Sometimes a militant is just nuts too.
