Orwells 1984 predictions have come to be, 30 years late but they have come true. Big brother is not just the government, but also corporate America. Improper thought or word will get you into trouble with the "thought police" Don't challenge political correctness or you will loose your friends, youll lose your job and your money. Those who don't support the left, those who say politically improper things will not be tolerated in 2013 America. Paula Deens situation has made a very public display of the problem, it clearly displays the loss of our freedom of speech and thought. You may not go to jail if you speak out against the special interest groups of the left (minorities, gays, atheists, socialists, enviromentalists, and other assorted leftist groups). Corporate America is so afraid of the lefts lawyers, boycotts and protests that they themselves have joined with these leftist in order to protect themselves from their action. They have become a suppressive of freedom themselves because of this. Look at the damage they have done to this one individual, a person that made them millions of dollars. Why do they do this??? no corporation wants Al Sharpton leading a boycott or protest against them. Its easier to submit, easier to just do what they demand. Corporate America is now just a tool of the leftists, nothing more nothing less. Id love to boycott them myself but there are so many of them doing this I could not buy anything. What can we do about this assult on our freedom???? Im at a loss here, they seem to have us over a barrel. Most of us go to work at places like this, most employers have human resources programs which shove this PC garbage down our throats at work, pro gay rights, pro minority etc. If you challenge it you will be "re-educated" in a diversity or tolerance course, or worse you will just be fired for not being in line with "corporate values". Our freedom has been removed not by law, but through economic means. The result is the same, you cannot speak our your values today the way you could 30 years ago. If you do, then the machine will move against you.

Still with this? Am I the only one that finds it richly ironic that so many so called pro business fiscal conservatives have made what is nothing more or nothing less than a business into such a big deal? It's almost as if conservatives can be hypocritical at times.

As a conservative I do support capitalism and business. It is after all the engine that brings prosperity to our nation. However that does not mean I support all the corruption that is corporate America, nor do I support the monopolysitic nature of many corporations that drive out of business our small enterprises. Also large corporations become inhuman machines that become the tools of the few, to be used against the masses. A certain big box retailer for example is responsible for offshoring of tens of thousands of US jobs (because of its massive support for cheap Chinese goods) and it has destroyed thousands of small town downtowns by driving out the local business. No one conservative or liberal should see that as a good thing. These corporations are also using their power to snuff out personal freedom, as they have Paula Deen's freedom of speech. Some corporations have become welfare recipiants as well, sucking tax dollars from the government via the bailout. GM, Chrysler, most of the big banks are all welfare recievers, not exactly the way capitalism is supposed to work. Don't assume all conservative support corporate America, we don't. Corporations are a concentration of power and they can be as corrupt and abusive as government. Citizens of this nation should watch them as closely as we watch our government.

Enough already, is she suppose to say she is sorry for the rest of her life. This is ridiculos.

Love to see what politicians say behind our backs, bet they say some unsavory words.

There are politicians out there, more deserving of this treatment then Paula.

Not the point that she has money, i believe she is being treated so unfairly, for being completely honest, she could have been a pathological liar would that have been better.

Too bad our politicians all of them, can't beleive in her way of thinking, to be completely honest.

To me this is so childish, punishing her for her honestly, and i sicerely do not see a mean bone in that women's body. Make this a teacahble moment, that those words can hurt, anyone who uses these words black white, or purple, these words hurt. I have heard Preachers say worse then her, and no one blinks a damn eye.

I have been thinking that Paula Deen may have said some words that she regrets, but considering her age and where she grew up, I do not consider her to have those feelings in her heart. We've all said that word or know someone in our families that says those words. By all accounts, she takes Hollis Johnson, a black kid, on all of her trips. She votes Democrat, an oddity for a white person in the south. Most Dems struggle to get 1 in 5 of the white vote and only get about 1 in 10 in alabama. Her apologies and my knowledge of southern ppl leads me to believe that we should take her apologies at face value. She has done far less than Dan Cathy of Chick-Fil-A infamy. She deserves a second chance.
Well, it's been a good lesson for her and everyone.

Alec Baldwin is white, male, and he's a liberal. Most (but not all) of the media is white, male, and liberal. People rarely pick on their own; however, "anything goes" if the person is not one of their own/a card-carrying member. Sometimes you gotta roll with the punches. Such is life...

can talk bad about Paula Dean.

Hear, hear!

Corporate America gets by with everything; I've spent my life in it ~ I know how little they care about ANYTHING other than $$$$. If anyone thinks they care one whit what Paula Deen said 30 years ago; you are sadly mistaken.

They care only that her current appearance might lose them a dollar.

Occasionally, we the people ought to hold their feet to the fire.

Yeah, but they are two different things. It's NEVER OK to say the n-word, but famous ppl (and most anyone) can still get by with degrading gay men with all kinds of profanities. That's just the way that this society is.

Wanting black employees to put on a shuck-and-jive minstrel show at an Antebellum-themed wedding is pretty danged egregious.
