Do you see the difference?
No one is taxed at 50%. Someone earning $18,000 can indeed pay 10% federal income tax. There is no reasonable explanation why anyone should be paying MULTIPLES more in taxes than their share of the income. It is NOT a successful person's responsibility to make up for a slacker. EVERYONE should be contributing their fair share. Tax EVERYONE equally. A flat tax means EXACTLY: Earn little; pay little. Earn A LOT; pay A LOT. ALL in EQUAL proportions.

The U.S. is one of the wealthiest nations in the world. If we can't feed our hungry children, seniors and disabled people, shame on us indeed.

I guess expecting people to provide for themselves and their family is too much nowadays.

So the system failed her and not the 3 dads, or her birth control.....people are insane!!!!

The fact that those who receive public assistance have a birth rate 3 times higher than those who don't actually lends credence to the Welfare Queen theory.

The government is indeed paying poor women to do nothing more than breed.

My point is that the wealthy could well afford to be taxed at 50 %. Did you not see in the figure I posted that the wealthy were taxed at far higher rates in the past, and somehow they managed to survive, and in fact flourish.

Flat taxes are regressive though. When you earn very little you should pay very little in taxes as a percentage of your income, not just amount.

Salaried worker: (the employer pays a matching amount of FICA)

$20,000
$1,728 federal tax
$1,240 SS
$290 medicare
=============
$3,258 total tax
16.3% tax rate

If self employed the tax rate would be: 23.94%

$220,000
$55,862 federal tax
$6,622 SS
$3,190 medicare
=============
$65,673 total tax
29.9% tax rate

If self employed: 34.3%

Why should they toil 6 months out of the year for free? Slavery was abolished, remember?

Everyone can pay a 10% federal income tax rate.

That's no excuse for so many people, the bottom 95% in fact, to FAIL to pay their fair share. Are we not all U.S. citizens/residents? Tax us all equally. Flat tax. Earn little; pay little. Earn A LOT; pay A LOT. ALL in equal proportions.

Not when you consider all the extra government services and benefits lower income earners receive...

To be fair, that chart needs to flatten out a lot more.
