While I think it is outrageous I believe the same charges would apply if it was a heterosexual relationship. Not saying there may not be a prosecutorial bias when it comes to pressing charges.

You don't think it might have something to do with the other girl being 15 when the age of consent in FL is 16?

Ages of consent in North America - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And if Wikipedia isn't good enough:

Florida - Age of Consent

Not sure how criminalizing this relationship improves the situation?

It may not, but it appears that the younger girl's parents filed a complaint of what amounts to sexual battery/statutory rape. The same thing that many parents would do if the older person was a boy.

Yeah, I agree on this one, and for the record, I am bi, and in a same-sex marriage. I think this sucks for many reasons but I have seen parents use this tactic to separate couples for a long time, nothing new, and plenty of young men slapped with sex offender labels for very similar situations.

This is what could happen if an 18-year-old male had had a sexual relationship with a 15 year-old-girl. Adults are not permitted to have sexual relations with children. Often prosecutors allow parents to decide whether or not to press charges in these cases. This is equality in action.

OK, so she's 18 and likes young kids.

Would it be OK if your 18 year old neighbor had sex with your 15 year old daughter?
