Oprah is another oh me oh my poor slave movie,, Oprah was no slave! Give it a break.. is this the only story blacks can do.. over and over again... wasn't roots enough!!
War movies over and over... wasn't The Dirty Dozen ("oh god I love that movie") enough?
Both are intended to arouse the ticket-selling "anti-Establishment", anti-boycott backlash (even though the one for Southern Baptist Sissies is clearly parody)
(And I have to say that the actress playing 'Sister Looper' here is absolutely brilliant, as the self-deceiving wife of a closeted Holy Roller Preacher struggling with his "inner demons". If you've lived in the South, you've seen women like this. This is an edited version. Wish I could find the uncut version.)

It's not a "slave" movie. it's about a butler.
Back in those days, Blacks were pretty much limited to "domestic help"
That's just the way it was back then. It's pretty hard to ignore the reality (much as you may WANT TO).
Oprahs' mother and grandmother were both maids.

Who cares... its like Oprah made a deal with the devil. She can make Billions in real life but on screen... she is always the maid. Why doesnt she have roles as the mother of a doctor, or as a president of a corporation, a teacher... its always movies where blacks are treated as second class citizens.
No thanks... not going to see this shuck and jive mess.
I'm a conservative but I don't see the controversy. I do find some Hollywood liberals to be annoying (especially the Michael Moore types) but I don't care about their personal politics when it comes to entertainment.
At best this seems like a small group that the general public (including most conservatives) even know or care about.
That being said I'm not going to see this movie because it looks dull.
