It's a thinly-disguised ad campaign, designed to make a very tired premise seem edgy. This is little different from all the fake hate crimes: people writing ethnic slurs on their own doors, or burning down their own homes or churches.
When the people behind this are discovered, they'll say they were in 'parody' or something. Anyway, a lot of people will fall for it, just as they have fallen for all the other "controversy" generated in order to get attention for other movies.
Do you even know what the film is about? Did you know it's based on an actual man who was indeed a butler at the White House for years? Did you know his son has been in many articles talking about his father & his time at the White House & this film? Of course you don't know because you don't bother to find out.
This plot has already been done in a 1970s TV series called Backstairs at the White House with Leslie uggams. It's typical that Hollywood won't give us an original story.
Read my post to Grandview. Jesus Christ, is everyone on here just knee jerk thickheads who don't bother to even know about what they're posting? No, it's not a rehash plot, it's about an actual man. You'd know that if you would take two seconds to maybe find out about it.
I still don't see what all the fuss is about. Its just a dull little movie with some controversial casting to try to get it some press. There just isn't enough there to praise it or condemn it.
Who cares... its like Oprah made a deal with the devil. She can make Billions in real life but on screen... she is always the maid. Why doesnt she have roles as the mother of a doctor, or as a president of a corporation, a teacher... its always movies where blacks are treated as second class citizens.
No thanks... not going to see this shuck and jive mess.
First of all, while she is a giant in the entertainment world, she hasn't done all that much acting (mostly she produces shows). Having said that, even among her limited number of roles she HAS been a doctor (a psychiatrist). Mostly though she has played downtrodden characters - what's wrong with that? It IS the life she grew up in after all, so she knows it very well.
I don't see you complaining about C/W singers who've become actors (like Billy Ray Cyrus) playing "poor Country Boys".

Not enough to form an opinion on the movie, yet your opinion is that it is "dull little movie".
It'll be an Oscar contender and do much better than the right's much heralded Atlas Shrugged (pathetic at the box office and only 11% rating at Rotten Tomatoes)

He/she is talking about the boycott..
It's like those Yahoo stories where they talk about a TV ad being banned for being to edgy or sexy... which makes everyone want to see the ad.
