Some college students are already getting well treated with luxurious football practice facilities as in the $68,000,000 one at Oregon.

NO. I was a D1 athlete and I think I was fairly compensated.

They are already paid. Have you ever known any D1 Athletes ? While having an institutional scholarship to play what ever sport they are in, they have 15 or so more scholarships as well as grants that get paid back to them. some of these kids are getting back 10,000+ a semester,or even more

Yes, especially at big football schools. They are bringing in millions.

The free ride they are getting in college is peanuts compared to the money they bring in.

Default Do you think college athletes should be paid?

Sure.

They risk injury and spend hours and hours working each week to make money for their universities. They should get something for that effort.

They do. They get an education and a lot of goodies and exposure to the big-league scouts. And, according to my cousin who played US college ball anyway, all kinds of cars and drugs and women, to a greater or lesser degree depending on the school and the talent.

If they ever did get formally paid, that will be the end college football as we know it; there is not room for two paid football leagues.

Do away with varsity athletic entirely. Make all sports in college club.

Football and men's basketball have to make enough for the sports department to pay for the other lesser sports.

Not really. Only about 12-15 schools a year make a profit.

Ohio State is the second biggest money maker behind Texas. They usually make about 4 million a year and that is kicked back to fund academic scholarships.

A school like Oho State will be reported as making $100 million a year off football but they sped 95 of that on the athletic department funding 34 other sports that lose money.

If colleges had to pay athletes any substantial sum of money all programs would go kaput.

Because of Title 9 you cannot pay the starting quarterback anymore than you can the 2nd string women's volleyball player. Even though she is an economic liability and the QB is an asset.
