Unionized San Francisco Strip Club Closing Its Curtains « CBS San Francisco

With the large gay population in SF and a very expensive piece of property it was probably doomed form the start.

The gay population in SF is irrelevant to the closing of the Lusty Lady. Don't confuse two or three neighborhoods with the entire city.

The high cost of real estate, OTOH, is the main culprit in its closing. The cost of living in San Francisco is strangling the city, as is the case with New York and Los Angeles. Sky-high property values are turning San Francisco into Disneyland. Yet another reason why rent control and Proposition 13 should be outlawed.

The "in" cities all over are pricing people out.
Only the 1%ers will be left.

Second paragraph of your link:
Quote:
The employee-owned, co-op club will close in two weeks because it can no longer afford its rent.
Rent rose from $5k/mo. to $16K/mo.

Several gay venues have shut down in San Francisco recently too -- and for the same reason (huge rent increases).

Thinly veiled homophobia FAIL.

Best city west of the Mississippi...I love the place, but it's become frighteningly expensive. Hell, my favorite hotel now charges me to park there. Ridiculous.

That's why I'm no longer there.

So that there are no places to live that is affordable? Also, I don't think rent controls effect commercial spaces, but I could be wrong with SF.

There is no commercial rent control in San Francisco. I was talking about in general. Rent control is a major reason why The City's so expensive.
