Looking at places like Illinois, California, Michigan, New York etc... All these states have extremely tough gun control laws, most of which are pretty much virtual bans. But yet it doesn't seem to be working. Meanwhile if you look at states that are more gun friendly, like Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, South Carolina etc... You find far less gun violence. Why is that?

I also noticed that Red States as a whole tend to have better economies than Blue States, and that more people are moving out of the Blue States and into the Red Stated, mainly the deep south which have the fastest growing population of people moving into them. Why is this?

Discuss!

The old bumper sticker still says it best.

"When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns."

Or in the more modern idiom:

GUN CONTROL LAWS ARE THE CRIMINAL'S OSHA:

THEY GUARANTEE HIM A SAFER WORKING ENVIRONMENT.

Hmm... True. But that doesn't explain why people are moving to the south and why red states have overall better economies than blue States.

I don't think it really matters whether it's blue state-red state. It isn't as cut and dry as you think.

Louisiana is a red state and it has the highest murder rate in the nation. It has had the highest murder rate in the nation for a long time now.

States with the top 10 highest murder rates(per 100,000).

Louisiana 11.1
Mississippi 7.45
New Mexico 7.15
Maryland 7.1
Missouri 6.55
Arizona 6.3
South Carolina 6.25
Michigan 6.05
Alabama 6
Tennessee 5.7

Out of the top 10, 7 are red states. This is for the time period of 2010-2011.

Bottom top(lowest murder rates)

Wyoming 2.3
Rhode Island 2.05
Maine 1.9
Utah 1.9
Idaho 1.85
Minnesota 1.6
Hawaii 1.5
Iowa 1.35
Vermont 1.2
New Hampshire 1.15

7 out of 10 are blue states. Now with Vermont, the gun laws there are quite lax.

I believe an individual's attitude, mentality, and culture play bigger parts in a person committing gun crime. If you have a violent mentality, that is a big problem.

Yes, the teeming masses in the vast urban ghettos of Wyoming are very law abiding - oh wait, there are no teeming masses in vast urban ghettos in Wyoming...

Also, the south is the poorest part of the U.S, and has very high crime rates, so.

By the by, the city I live in here in California is vastly safer than St. Augustine, Florida. San Jose, CA has a homicide rate of .04 per 1,000, St. Augustine, FL has a homicide rate of .15 per 100,000.

So, a city of over 1,000,000 in California is vastly safer than a little burb in Florida with only 13,000.

Geeze, what's going on?

Source?

Also I question your list because Florida has the 4th largest GDP and Texas has the second. Also GDP does not necessarily mean a better economy, other things come into play like tax burdens etc...

GDP per capita. Not GDP.

Murder and murder with a gun need to be separated, this thread is about gun violence, and we all know that bats (bluunt objects) have killed more people than long guns (rifles and shotguns) combined in 2011.......
