Good for Kenya. Ever around second hand smoke? Ever eat a Big Mac? Lot of things contribute to our deaths according to the folks who think they are smarter than everybody else. Did your relative ever purchase any oil based products? Or do you just hate oil companies because that is what you are told? What about solar companies who leave "waste" in their midst? Or should we just go back to whaling? Do you use any oil based products?

Well if they can grow their own food we won't have to keep sending em aid. Have you heard of the ogallala aquifer? That is why the Midwest is the "breadbasket". Although old T Boone tried his best to steal all that water to pump to Texas for money cause that's all he cares about.

I've read that the discovery of oil saved the whales. They were on the verge of extinction when a new energy source was found. It also was going to end pollution because it would put an end to horse dung in the streets. And the new "green" energy has it's problems, from ethanol using too much water and producing less energy than it takes to make, to the toxicity of battery waste, to windmills killing birds, to mercury in light bulbs.

All energy has it's ups and downs, but the discovery of oil has lead to the greatest expansion of wealth and quality of life in the history of the human race, at least in the First World.

Because it's a great discovery. Let's hope it's not misused (i.e., dictators/warlords hording water and keeping it from the people, selling it to other areas, etc.).

That is what many don't even realize. The shampoo they wash their hair with is oil based. The roads we drive hell oil is what made the US the greatest country to ever thrive on the planet. Some hate that though and hate oil. I think nuclear is the way to go for the future but we got plenty of oil/coal until the smart guys figure that out.
