Would you hire a criminal? 1 in 4 American adults have a criminal record. (Obama, companies)

In construction I work with murderers, thieves, skinheads and worse. Most are ok and will watch your back.Kinda old fashioned way of living where we all just are there and know we all need to get along.Never had a problem in 43 yrs and if you break down on the side of the road help is guaranteed from these guys. Take them over a cubicle chained metro sexual idiot who can pass a background check anyday of the week.
You work with murderers?
That's where I would draw the line, other than child molesters. Pedophiles don't deserve a second chance.

Yeah, I have a criminal record.. I'm a real hard core criminal. In 1969 I was arrested for being a minor in possession of an alcoholic beverage... It was in my car and I didn't even know it was there.. Had I known, I would have disposed of the evidence..

Can you get it off. That's just stupid..aren't you mad...?
Oh, I probably could if I really had the desire to get it off.. It doesn't affect me and in fact a lot of people who have done a background check on me kinda laughed at it too.. It may have gotten me a few jobs..
I'd say it depends on what position was being filled. If it was someone working in a warehouse, manufacturer, auto mechanic, construction, in a restaurant, or sales, I'd say let's give the person a second chance. If it was a bank, cashier, or any other position dealing with money, I may have a problem hiring someone with a theft conviction or even a drug conviction if I thought the person would start stealing to feed his habit. I would never hire a sex offender for anything, ever.
Then feel free to hire a pot smoking old hippy to manage your money.
As for me, I have a simple rule: Those that don't follow the rules, don't hold my money. Duhh. If you chose to be criminal, then you don't get to be in financial services. Duhh. It's nothing but rational policy.
What an incredibly strict yet vague criteria for hiring you have.
Soon having insurance for all Americans will be required. That will be a rule.
You will be punished for breaking that rule if you don't buy insurance. So technically, the sadly (many) people who agree with your political views (yes, I can see your public posting history) and protest by paying the fine and breaking the rule should be punished by not being considered for financial industry jobs should they apply.
Oh wait, that could also soon be you if you don't follow that rule. Now you're disqualified based on your own criteria.
Oh god, maybe you shouldn't even be handling your own money.
It is getting pretty hard to find a young worker that does not have a record.
And the public sector does a poor job of conducting a background/criminal check as well.
Anyone else notice the number of relatively minor offenses that have recently become felonies?
Anyone else aware that the good old USA has become the world's largest jailer?
Anyone else think it might be connected to the "privatization" of prisons?
