New York City mayoral candidate Joe Lhota (R) appeared to do everything he could Tuesday to distance himself from the overall GOP.
Squaring off in the first televised debate against Democratic challenger Bill de Blasio, Lhota went on the defensive about being portrayed as a "national Republican." He claimed that his policies represent "long and hard" differences, from his pro-choice stance on abortion, to his support of gay marriage.
"Do not lump me with the national Republicans," Lhota said on WABC-TV, while pointing at de Blasio. "It’s unbecoming.”
Ouch. Granted, this is New York, and an East Coast Republican bears only passing resemblance to one from the Deep South. But even so, I wonder how much more of this we will see in the coming months as the 2014 campaigns start to gear up. I'm guessing a lot.
I'm not a fan of that. I'm a Republican and I'm upset with the direction the party is going, but that doesn't mean you turn your head. I've always believed that you need to work to BE THE CHANGE that you want to see. If this candidate wants the GOP to change course, he's going about it in the wrong way.

Actually, no, he can't change anything if he is not elected, and if he does not distance himself he won't be elected. This is NYC, where people are educated and politically savvy, not the Southeast, where God, Guns and Gays are the hot topics.
Yeah, how embarrassing that the GOP doesnt just stay the same old elitist establishment. Same ones that helped the liberals get us into this mess. This clown is a coward and you all are dopes.
