The RWNJs are scared ****less that Obamacare will work.
This.
If Obamacare works, it will be obvious to everyone that the right wing was:
1. Lying about how bad Obamacare was with all of their "sky is falling" rants.
2. Actively trying to keep people from getting quality, affordable health care coverage.
3. Doing #1 and #2 at the behest of their corporate overlords who for some reason don't want people to be able to obtain health insurance coverage that is not tied to employment with businesses dictating the type of coverage you will have and how much it will cost.
It will work because if it doesn't, it will be changed until it does. Republicans will have at it, so will Democrats, and they will all end up with skin in the game.
In 1993, the then-version of Obamacare (called Hillarycare after the co-President's pushing of it) was roundly defeated after Billary made a fatal mistake: They wrote a book describing what was in it, and they published it.
The American people read the book, expressed astonishment, and buried their congresscritters with calls, cards, letters, and even telegrams, demanding that they vote against it. Reaction was so strong, that the program was never even brought to a vote.
Fast forward to 2013. The Obots have been careful not to repeat the grievous error of telling the American people what they intended to impose on them. The closest anyone ever came, was a slip of the tongue by the President, saying he wanted to "spread the wealth around", and a secretive non-statement from Nancy Pelosi who said "You have to pass the bill to find out what's in it".
Public reaction was still strongly negative, so the Obots resorted to bribing Democrat congressmen with Federal project money right and left, granting exceptions and waivers to any who still resisted, and holding votes at midnight the day before Christmas, to sneak it through when the American people were least alert.
So Obamacare was carefully hidden from the public until after it was passed and signed.
But the American people had to find out sometime. And now, with the Obamacare exchanges open for business and chock full of details on what it will and won't cover, how much people's premiums will increase (often doubling or tripling),and how much they will have to pay before ANY coverage kicks in ($6,000 or more deductible)... finally the American people are getting their first good look at the leftists' agenda for them.
To no one's surprise, they hate it, almost to a man. And that's BEFORE they found out the hard way, that the system is so poorly set up, that they cannot sign up for it even when the law forces them to, or face stiff penalties.
In 1993, once the people found out what the leftists intended (by reading the book about it), they kicked the leftists out of office in huge numbers, handing large majorities to the Republicans for years to come.
Today, the people are (finally) finding out once again, what the leftists intend. Unsurprisingly, it's not much different from they intended in 1993.
And the next Congressional election, is next year.
What do you suppose will happen? Again?
This burned into my memory as it happened and I will never forget how this most un-American piece of cr*p was thrust upon us.
Just as many, even more, registered their complaint against it this time around and their voices fell upon deaf ears.
It will work because if it doesn't, it will be changed until it does. Republicans will have at it, so will Democrats, and they will all end up with skin in the game.
Every major Democratic Party "social program" has been "fixed & fixed" repeatedly since their inception without exception.
Some for scores and decades on end.
That's what the cons are afraid of ... that if they don't whine, scream, cry and distract the public from actual Obamacare, people will like it.
As you said. Let's wait and see. Or we could all write some dramatic fiction in our spare time ... of which L-A seems to have an abundance, by the way ... and discuss it here in 570 pages of "debate." That's the usual way on C-D, after all.
Is that why it was delayed to start until after the elections?
Is that why business's were given a pass for this year?
Every major Democratic Party "social program" has been "fixed & fixed" repeatedly since their inception without exception.
Some for scores and decades on end.
And most of those fixes have taken the form of government injecting massive amounts of tax money into them to try to make ends meet... only to have to inject even more the following year, since the earlier one didn't solve the problems... and more.... and more....
The fight isn't about the ACA. It's about a man living in the White House who some radicals/extremists will never accept as President of the USA. If it was't the ACA it would be another issue.
As with any new major legislation/government program ... or any major new program in the corporate world ... there are refinements which, in not too long a period of time, become evident. We had glitches with Social Security. And with Medicare. In Chicago we have a new farecard for public transit and the agencies overseeing their use millions of times per day are finding problems with the new system, software, etc. It'll get worked-out, though. Many of the people who opposed those last two mentioned programs(Social Security/Medicare) support them now. They've been refined. Continue to be refined. The process is a marathon, not a sprint (I've heard someone else say that, it's not an original thought of mine). Rather than spend so much time and money opposing ACA and deamonizing the President and others who've supported the legislation and the people who find the ACA beneficial in their lives, people should expend similar energies and money making the process better. The implementation of the ACA is at the infancy stage. Give it a year or two of nurturing.
I see the Minister of Propaganda has arrived.
Is that you Goebbels?
