PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Although it's still not legal for same-sex couples to marry in Oregon, the state is now recognizing the marriages of those who tie the knot in another state or country.
In a memo sent to state agencies Wednesday, state Chief Operating Officer Michael Jordan said same-sex couples married in places where it is legal are immediately eligible for the same benefits as other married couples.
This is awesome!
I've been saying for some time that I thought Oregon would be the next state to legalize same sex marriage; I believe this statement just paves the way.
Great news for Oregon. I believe the push is to get it on the ballot for 2014 for a vote. I wouldn't be surprised to see Oregon legalize gay marriage before 2016.
Like I said, I believe Oregon will be next - or part of a larger group all legalizing it at the same time (even better).
When that happens, the entire west coast will be same sex marriage friendly.
I hope I live long enough to see it legal across all fifty states.
I meant after OR, but lycos679 mentioned pending developments in IL.
With the Northeast and West Coast filling in, the map is really looking good. My state of SC will never legalize or recognize unless it's by force. Leaving ASAP. I'd rather live somewhere that reflects my attitudes and I'm sure I won't be missed. It's sad...there is a really big LGBT community here.

I love my state (Washington).
Very progressive (marriage equality, death with dignity.....and legalized pot).

Funny enough I'm moving from North Carolina in February. I can not wait to get out of here, and I am sure I won't be missed either.

And I'm moving to Washington....just in time to see my aunt and her partner get married
I don't buy much hard stuff myself, though; I usually just stick with quality wine - you know, the kind that comes in a box.
