Suck it up Republicans. Time to roll up the sleeves and get something done. Judges nominated by the president will now be seated after 5 long years of republican obstructionism.

Alright! This is good news... The democrats sealed their decisions... short-sightedness was always the liberals strong point... now we are going to hear them cry for decades to come...

So is this sarcasm? The Democrats control the Senate. They make the rules. What's the problem?

I'm glad to see Harry Reid, after -- what, the 40th threat? -- make good and change the rule.

Or maybe just shut the entire government down?

The Senate minority has just become irrelevant... the only thing that matters now is the House majority/minority and the Senate majority... the democrats don't know it, but they just stabbed themselves in the heart...

I'm a conservative, but I think the filibuster should have been done away with decades ago (if it should have ever existed in the first place.) Like it or not, we have a majority rules government. The filibuster only creates gridlock. The shouldn't need a supermajority to pass something.

And also, what goes around comes around. At some point the Republicans will get control of the Senate. If the Dems get rid of the filibuster, at that point they're going to have live with whatever the Republicans want.

This isn't even a law. It's a Senate rule, and can be changed by a simple majority of senators. It's only tradition (and fear) that's kept it in place.

... not bloody likely, considering that the GOP and Tea Party are so fractured and disliked, it'll likely be awhile before they're in any position to get a majority again. I'm no fan of Obama, and his approval rating is quite low, but that doesn't mean that people want a bunch of fat, blubbering morons standing at the podium screaming their heads off about abortion and wanting to undo any progress this country has made since the industrial revolution.

I don't necessarily "like" the fact that they've changed the rules and understand why the filibuster was in place, but this is another situation where the GOP's policy of obstruct, obstruct, obstruct, right up until the economy fractures, the budget is nixed, and the government ceases to function has blown up right in their faces. What they've done over the last few years basically amounts to a coup; IMHO, there are a lot of senators who should be tried for treason.
