I would think that those you are familar are already more of a threat. Certainly I witnessed this when in basic training with those who were use to rifles. America was once called a nation of riflemen;remember.
Well considering how hard the are making gun ownership on the east and west coast it should be pretty easy for someone to land.... On the other hand all those cowboys down south can help hold the boarder for awhile!!!
What do the experts think? Could a foreign army ever invade the US with 300,000,000 guns held by our population?
If we're going to take your question seriously, I'd guess that, in the unlikely event the US mainland was ever invaded by a foreign army, the commanders would have to take into account the number of small arms out there, and maybe make some tactical adjustments.
But the presence of those guns would not be a factor in deciding whether or not to invade the US.
Logistics, distance, and size play a bigger role rather than guns. If a foreign army did occupy the US and civilians did attempt to resist using their guns, it would probably end in quasi genocidal slaughter for the civilians.
