LOL!... you're so cute when you say things like this, wish I had a camera.
No, you lunatics, foreign nations don't invade us because we have the largest, most lethal military on the face of the earth. No one in Russian, Iran, or China gives a **** about some redneck with a rifle.
So the fact that if they did get past the armed forces they would face an waiting party of around 100,000,000 Gun Owners, with about 24,000,000 Veterans does not just reinforce that idea they cant win.
You forget that just inland a little ways... Are states that ARE armed. California, really, is the only totally insane one in the west. OR and WA have very liberal laws, Alaska is armed better than the military, and the next states east of the coastal states are armed like they intend to win the next world war.
Eastern seaboard? Eh, who cares? If we lost them things could only get better...
Thats an odd strategy to repel invaders , "things could only get better" if you throw half your fighting force under the bus .
In a hypothetical scenario like the op envisions no country is going to survive a dedicated action by Americas military, however a well trained army would easily defeat a scattered bunch of non trained individuals with guns.

It prevented the Japanese Armed forces from invading the West Coast.
It also made the Mexico Government not side with Germany in World War 1 via the Zimmerman Telegraph.
Also a great shot of a Mossberg 930 Shotgun.
Isoroku Yamamoto - Wikiquote You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass. It has been declared this attribution is "unsubstantiated and almost certainly bogus, even though it has been repeated thousands of times in various Internet postings. There is no record of the commander in chief of Japan’s wartime fleet ever saying it.",
As we seem to be playing around with hypothetical scenarios how about that invading force just nuke the place to slag, problem of gun owners completely eliminated..
If it did take place it would be U S forces and civilians and that country or group would take a major a$$ whooping. I doubt in my neck of the woods there are a lot of people who know about the Geneva convention and I won't make it a point too tell them.

Yeah, great pic. Be even cooler if it was TRUE>
That quote precedes the internet by about 50 years. I first saw it quoted from reports by US military personnel who debriefed Japanese high command officers at the end of WW II.
Did Yamamoto actually say it? Who knows, but it's plausibility rested on the fact that he spent several years in the US, at Yale for grad school if I remember correctly.
I'm not sure about making an invasion much harder, but it certainly would make holding the country much more difficult.
What if the invading army decided to use chemical weapons in areas of high gun ownership before they even occupy the area?
