Sheriff Rick Clark of Pickens Co South Carolina tweeted that he will refuse President Obama's direction that US flags be lowered to half-staff, in tribute to Nelson Mandela:

South Carolina Sheriff Refuses To Lower Flag For Mandela

Clark's stated reason? Mandela's not an Amurrikin, he-yuck he-yuck.

Stay classy, SC...

I see no reason to lower it, either.

Obama can't force states to lower the flag. But he can order Federal facilities to lower it.

He's right BTW, there's no reason to lower the US flag for Mandela, no offense to Mandela.

This from the same president who couldn't bother sending a representative from the administration to the funeral of Margaret Thatcher.

No matter his achievements, count me among those who don't see the necessity of lowering the flag of the United States for a foreign head of government and/or state.

This isn't S. Africa. Let them lower their own damn flag over there. Let ours here in the US fly high.

President Obama doesn't have control over local jurisdictions' flag poles. :/
