What does being human and flying a flag at half mast have to do with each other. Did this Sheriff claim that Mandela wasn't human?

I don't see lowering it either. All nation flags in S. Africa are the ones who should be lowered.

Stay classy, SC...
Nelson Mandela isn't an American. His efforts are noble but didn't effect the United States. When the flag is lowered, it represents a tribute to someone who contributed to American society.

Me neither --- does the flag always get lowered when a former leader of some other country dies of old age?

That's just silly. They don't lower the flag when ever some American dies -- much less for every human being throughout the world.

He could've just not done it, not made an issue of it, and no one would've noticed (especially since it was half mast anyways). Obviously he was craving some attention.

Lowering the American flag should be reserved for Americans.

Period.
