The stand your ground law is a good law and helps acknowledge the right of self defense of the private citizen. If you do not have such a law then citizens can be prosecuted or charged as in the case of Matthew Pickerton in Maryland. He responded to a home invasion in his home and the local DA charged him instead of the criminal. IGNORANCE of the law, written and case and theory, does create some confusion. The case you mention is not a case for this law as the principals of the law were not satisfied. Deadly force can only be used if a reasonable person would believe that force is necessary to prevent the imminent commission of a forcible felony or prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to oneself. I highly recommend everyone read Jon H. Gutmacher, Esq. Florida Firearms Law,Use and Ownership in order to understand the laws of the state. You should look up the legal definitions of key words such as imminent and forcible felony. Our current laws are the result of decades of prosecution of seniors, women, and others in our society that legally defended themselves. Although the media seldom informs the readers of good applications of the laws, you can find monthly real life examples of such cases at the NRA website or publication.
Actually these two case are nothing like each other.
Most of us knows and acknowledges that, I would bet that even the OP knows it but won't admit it because it doesn't fit the agenda he's trying to push.
The real difference is this guy wasn't on the ground getting beaten and yelling for help when he shot the other guy.
Actually he was being beaten while on the ground, even the guy who was beating the crap out of him admitted it.
