The Growth Of Government: 1980 To 2012 - Forbes

I just stumbled over this "analysis" at Forbes on the growth of government. Look at the graphs in the article, then read the cutting edge conclusions from this fine analyst.......funny stuff!

"Although we may have a temporary reprieve from overall government growth, on the road to a larger government lies many perils. Although the size of government has declined slightly in the past four years, the debt has exploded and higher taxes are likely on the horizon. It is during periods of government expansion that freedoms are commonly surrendered. When Paul Revere took his midnight ride shouting, “The British are coming,” the colonists were facing a mortal threat from an army intent on taking their land and freedom. Today, the threat is no less real, but is not of the type which threatens our life, just our liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Think about it."

I would be curious to see the growth from Dec.'12 to Dec.'13. Something tells me with all of the Obamacare debacles -- after all, you can't spend $700 million on a website and not hire a FEW new people -- that the overall # of government employees is trending up once again.

Compare the average tenure of a government employee vs the private sector and get back to us...

Wow, it went up .2% from Reagan to Obama (7.2 to 7.4%), than dropped .5% under Obama's first term (6.9%).

So it was a net loss in 30 years of .3%...they are totally taking over.

Where did I talk about federal employees? Can you show me? What I can see is that you were the first one to even use the word federal doing a page search. Where did you dream up that I said they were federal employees?

You do understand that pretending people said something they didn't is wrong, right? Right??

While federal employment has crept up its in two areas that are typically supported by Republican. Almost all the increase has been civilian employment at Army, Navy, and Airforce. The other area is Homeland Security which includes the Border Patrol. I guess you can call these buildups jobs programs for returning veterans. More recently Republicans want another 20,000 or so added to the Border Patrol.

Obama also cut the debt in half, and we can keep out plans. It's FANTASTIC!
