I fervently believe that anti-gay bigots have and should always have the right to spout their anti-gay hatred. I also fervently believe people who disagree with them have and should always have the right to speak against it - including calling for boycotts.

First off, am I a government? If not, then whatever desire I have has nothing to do with free speech and the 1st Amendment.
Secondly, I just told you I will fervently defend his right to say whatever hateful and bigoted anti-gay comments he wants. While doing that, however, I will just as fervently deride and scorn him for saying them hoping that doing so will have a positive impact in the lives of the gay kids his speech ends up harming.
