That's awesome! Congrats to them!

Unlike CA, Utah will appeal. States have every right to establish marriage laws they deem fit as sovereign entities. This will end up before SCOTUS once again.
They also don't have the right to discriminate .

I used to think that people disagreed and that they would come to agreement over time. Not so. Its win or lose….and the people on the side of prohibiting equal rights fall below the horizon.

I wonder what happens to them as change and time move forward.

Thank you for making that clear. I am a practicing Mormon who has no problem with legalizing gay marriage. I've even marched in Utah's Gay Pride Parade with a group called "Mormons Building Bridges."

Because same-sex
marriage has only recently been allowed by a number of states, the State argues that an
individual’s right to marry someone of the same sex cannot be a fundamental right. But the
Supreme Court did not adopt this line of reasoning in the analogous case of Loving v. Virginia,
388 U.S. 1 (1967). Instead of declaring a new right to interracial marriage, the Court held that
individuals could not be restricted from exercising their existing right to marry on account of the
race of their chosen partner. Id. at 12. Similarly, the Plaintiffs here do not seek a new right to
same-sex marriage, but instead ask the court to hold that the State cannot prohibit them from
exercising their existing right to marry on account of the sex of their chosen partner
.

Congrats to the first gay couple to wed in Utah:

And he cites Scalia's dissenting argument that the overturning of the federal DOMA would lead to the overturning of similar state laws. It was "Yep, and I'm doing it!"

That's good stuff right there.
