Well the guy may have attacked the retired sheriff by throwing his popcorn at him.

Man killed after dispute over texting in theater - FOX 13 News

Popcorn being a life threatening item for any macho nutjob holding a .380; you just know he can't let that pass.

Buncha freak'n loonatics heading down this retarded road that rational people avoid like the plague it is.

EVERY human being has a temper and EVERY human being has at one time or another lost control of that temper but now throw a damn gun into the mix and here's what happens.

Families all around this event are scarred for life now. The guy gurgled and died in the arms of the theater patron sitting in front of him whose son, also having witnessed this idiotic happenstance, had to dial 911. the victim's wife tried vainly to protect her husband by putting her hand in front of his chest to no avail and received a wound to her hand.

An off-duty law officer took the pistol off the stupid azzhat and held him until LEO's could arrive and arrest him for 2nd degree murder. Two nurses in the theater tried to perform CPR and other life saving techniques.

Look at the carnage this event has wrought on any number of families present and wonder how many idiots are out there with a burning fuse just waiting to go off and where you might be standing when they do.

We may have reached the point where cell phones kill more people than they save.

If the movie theatre had been in a cell phone free zone this incident would not have occurred.

The bad part is, there are cell phone jammers available that the theater could have had in place.

First off, to the OP I'd like to know how you shoot someone "alive"? That sentence "Man shot dead" drives me up a wall, like finger nails on a blackboard.

As for the incident, evidently a 71 year old retired cop had asked this guy to knock it off repeatedly and things escallated verbally after the old guy went to the lobby and came back. It's not been totally explained how bad the verbal fight got. The retired cop then pulled his .380 and shot the moron with the phone hitting him in the chest and his wife in the hand when she reached for her husband while he was being shot at.

With all that being said there's no reason that a retired cop should have shot the moron no matter how moronic he was being unless it got physical (he is 71 after all). Detained him or arrested him? Ok, but shooting him was over the line (given the facts that have been released so far).

Now before all the anti-gun crowd gets their collective panties in a wad, isn't it your crowd that says only the cops are trained and experienced enough to possess guns?
Hmmmmm?

Talking in the theatre.
Texting in the theatre.
Taking two parking spaces.
Not returning the shopping cart properly.
Speeding in school zones.

All are worthy of at least 50 lashes. Special circumstances might warrant harsher penalties.

Some things just plain don't need to be done in public. Texting and yapping on the phone would be two of those things.
Yet you don't count murder among them?
