Yes, anything can happen, but it's getting old with US talking up the devil before every Olympic Games. We went on and on about how vulnerable Athens was going to be and managed to scare a lot of people out of going there, and we did it with London, and China, and nothing happened.
Except there's already been two bombings and two potential suicide bombers identified. One of the two was by their released video and another is a Muslim woman who's husband was killed in a shoot out with Russian police. The games are not far from the Chechnia region.
With the amount of muslim terrorist attacks that have already happened and the threats of more to come, this Olympics has the potential to become another Munich. Russia has had trouble with Muslim terrorist in the recent past. With this year's Olympics being so close to the Muslim region, it presents a dangerous situation. I hope no terrorist attacks takes place, but I believe attacks will be attempted.
I agree with you in principle, but I feel that Putin wants to ensure that his country's time on the world stage will not be filled with the images of terrorists.
Personally, I wouldn't go, but I do feel the crowds will be there.
