So if a religious organization couldn't afford their property tax, they would have to sell their property?

It's about time! The burden doesn't need to fall on taxpayers to subsidize churches. If you know you can't afford what's going up don't build it. Worship at home or amongst friends minus the multimillion dollar price tag. If the congregation wants it bad enough they can pay.

What really erks me about how it is now is churches and cemetaries can take up valuable land with no income coming out and how churches can legislate hate through picketing, campaigning, etc and this money is UN taxed.

From your link:

“Religious people say they want to carry out the directives of Jesus who said, ‘Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s,’ when he was asked whether taxes should be paid to Caesar,” Chambers wrote in bill LB675. “In short: ‘PAY YOUR TAXES.’ This bill simply carries out what Jesus wanted to see his followers do, and they certainly want to see the Scriptures fulfilled.”

That's discrimination asking to only one type of organization to have their tax exemption removed.
It's either ALL or none.

If you want to remove it then remove it from ALL tax exempt organizations.

Word for word Bible interpretation. Good for Bible thumpers until something comes up they don't like. THEN they wanna cherry pick.

that won't work. There is a reason the founder s incorporated a tax exemption. Its to keep the church from being targeted by the state.
