I don't see why this isn't a good idea. The poor would be better off getting money in their pocket instead of leeching off the welfare state. This idea is gaining traction. Some prominent conservatives are actually entertaining the idea.
eliminate all social programs but SS for those that have paid into it or give them their cash value and taxes , eliminate illegals and all other freebies from UBI. then I would need to take a look at it

So do away with helping people who are down on their luck and truly need our help, and just give everyone a wad of free money, regardless of whether they need it or not?????
Sounds like the Basic Living Stipend (BLS) in the Republic of Haven/People's Republic Of Haven as described in the Honor Harrington/Manticore Universe books by David Weber.
What do we do when the number of people receiving the BLS (or UBI) exceeds the number of people working and paying taxes?
What do we do when the people receiving the UBI (or BLS) DEMAND that the payment amounts increase?
Because basic income levels wouldn't meet inflation rates.
The same problem the lower end labor market meets now.
I say have a flat tax where all income, up to 50K is 100% tax free. No sales tax on unprepared foods, anywhere. End all taxation on basic utilities. Gas, water, electric, and phones.
None of what you're saying makes sense.

You need money to survive. What's going to happen when all low end jobs become automated. There will be tons of people out of work. The only way to mitigate any calamity to massive unemployment is basic income.
I posted 2 links to what it is. Its called the negative income tax and a libertarian came up with it.

Libertarians equate taxation with theft, this plan is just more of the same.
