Fully half of the Republican Base is made up of people born before 1947. They are also known as the Silent Generation. They have always voted conservative and since 2000 have powered Republicans into office. My question is how do Republican fire-up this part of the base for 2014?. In 2010 Republicans used hundreds of thousands if not millions of robo-calls to land based phones calling for a repeal of the ACA and restoration of Medicare PPO programs. Basically Republicans ran to the left promising more gubbermint handouts. Now this base of white voters over the age of 67 seems to be fading for unknow reasons. How does the Tea Party types propose replacing these voters..Will complaining about the ACA be enough? How about more gubbermint handouts like Medicare Part D? Will that be enough to bring the base out?

Already in Kentucky we are seeing Mitch McConell is a four point under dog to an unknow Democrat. You have to ask yourself what wrong with the Republican Party?

Alison Lundergan Grimes holds a slim 4-point advantage over Mitch McConnell in Kentucky | Politics and Government | Kentucky.com

In totally moronic fashion, you fail to understand that people grow more conservative as they age.

Only under 40's voted in the majority for Obummer in 2012.

You would be smarter to ask how in the world Dems will ever get elected again to the Presidency.

That might be enough. McConnell is behind by 4% so what freebee do Republicans have for their base...you have to find another handout.

He is going to get primaried by the Tea Party conservative, following in the steps that brought us all Rand Paul.

The Senate is about to finally become Conservative. Booting Progressives in both parties is the name of the game in mid-terms.
Remember 2010? Of coarse you don't.

Much of the Republican base will be going underground or up in smoke over the next couple election cycles. They ought to be more concerned with attracting young voters than catering to the elderly. But if they addressed issues that affect young people, then they would not be conservative anymore. The Republican brand is caught between a rock and a hard place. It's go moderate or go away for them. From the looks of things, they are choosing extinction.

That is the thing, you don't have to fire them up. They always vote and that is why the republicans will make gains in the senate and the house in midterms.

It is the same reason the NRA holds so much sway. They are not only the second largest organization in America but politicians know that the vast majority of the members show up at the polls and vote for this one issue.

It's like a repeat of the Great Depression and Civil Rights era when the Republicans were irrelevant for 20 years in a row, a 4 year break, then another 8 years of Democratic control of the White House. It's going to be a repeat of the "good old days" when Democrats had a lot of power. The the GOP took control for most of the 70s and 80s, and swung back and forth between 1992 and now. Looks like the pendulum is swinging back to the center-left after being between center and center-right since Nixon
