What If There Was No Minimum Wage?

Many of the unemployed, wouldn't be.

That is, many people currently making $0/hr, would be making $4 or $5/hr.

That would be terrible, wouldn't it.

i think minimum wages hold back average pay, its an excuse, the government say we have to pay this, this is all we can afford.

but if there was no minimum wages then business would have to compete to keep their good help, why should i work for a dollar if joes paying two dollars.

those that are total worthless sou;d fine how what good work is. There is a lot of people that not worth minimum wage. it needs to be market base. but then that would cut into government tax rate and that would not be good for uncle sam

Employers would simply rejoice in their new found right to use the freed up labor market to find out how close to zero Americans are willing to work.

They might be making less than that, nothing would stop an employer from paying the least they possibly can.

And businesses don't do that today? Do we all somehow only make minimum wage because the country has a minimum wage law?

What if job a, b, and c only wanted to pay you a dollar an hour and you couldn't find anyone willing to pay you more than that, then what? What if the person behind you is willing to do the job for less than what you are willing to do it for, then what do you do?

A few would.

They're lousy businesspeople and would fail fast.

Then you'd make a dollar an hour - if that's acceptable to you.

If it isn't, then you do something else.

The fallacy of the false dilemma is very strong with you, grasshopper.

How would they fail if they had people willing to work next to nothing? Isn't that going on with the manufacturing jobs we shipped overseas? Those companies seem to be doing fine.

And you would be making zero dollars cause I took a job out from under you willing to do it for less.

You really should learn something about business.

It would be such an eye opener. I think for you it could rightly be called "life changing".
