The NYT is kind of all over the board on this.
French Economy Experiencing Biggest Growth in Years

The French problem is they have a business culture of entrepreneurship as their economy is dominated by huge legacy firms.

It's as good a time as any to mention the housing bubble was not limited to the U.S.
It drove the global economy for a blip in time.

France supports its entrepreneurs (French word BTW) but despises the rich rentiers (sp?)(also French word) living off their investments. I think France welcomes the inventive as part of the culture. If people are leaving I think it is because of the difficulty of the language.

No, France isn't the American left's paradise. Abortion is not permitted there after the first trimester and illegal immigration is actually illegal, not de facto legal.

Generally speaking now Europeans, compared to Americans prefer to enjoy food, family and vacation time over McMansions and luxury items. Europeans do not get caught up in Keeping up with the Jones' while Americans have to make sure they fit in with their neighbors and have all the "best" material items.

I prefer the European style in this sense. Work enough to have more time with family then your job, enjoy some good foods, travel occasionally and enjoy vacation time.
Since when is this only a European thing?

People from all over the world including the USA spend time with family, enjoy good food and travel..

But people in the US work tons and tons in lieu of spending time doing other things just to keep up with the Jones'. I think that was his point.

Its all lifestyle choices... yes "people" in the US work alot so they can buy nice things... some people are broke... some people are rich... some people live a "minimal" lifestyle..

i don't think there is a country or a continent that forces people to live a certain lifestyle

If we are still talking about France's best and brightest leaving, why would they leave France because of the difficulty of the language when they are native French speakers?
